So, I’m sure everyone remembers Hale-Bopp and Heaven’s Gate right? So, I walk into Allen’s office, within days of the mass suicide (4/7/1997), to find him starting up his Mac. As we chatted, I glanced at his screen only to see his hacked start-up screen – the semi-famous Heaven’s Gate “black Nike sneaker” photo to which he’d added the Nike swoosh and slogan of the day “Just Do It”. I still snicker about that.
